Gryphon Skull

I used Aves Apoxie sculpt to help create this fantasy skull of a Gryphon. A mold and cast were made of a real lion skull for the posterior half, and I used Aves to sculpt the anterior “scaled up” eagle half of the skull. I used Aves over a roughed out urethane foam, which I sculpted into the rough shape of the skull, and gave the final finish “coat” in Aves, because it allows me to put in small details and texturing that will hold up to the molding process when the final mold is made of the finished skull. Aves bonds extremely well to the foam, which allows me to work fast to achieve the initial form, but makes the final product very durable. Artist ~ Tom Most; Mostly Fantasy
